What is the Account for Ukrainian Refugees?

The Account for Ukrainian Refugees is a non-interest-bearing basic payment account in euros that enables the basic and usual banking of a current account. It has been designed for individuals over the age of 18 who have had to flee Ukraine as a result of the ongoing conflict.

The Account for Ukrainian Refugees does not entitle the holder to take out or engage other products or services available at the bank, with the exception of the Open Debit Card.

What type of banking can I carry out with the Account for Ukrainian Refugees?

With the Account for Ukrainian Refugees, you can carry out the following:

a) Deposit and withdraw cash into/from the account;

b) Withdraw cash at ATMs and in our branches;

c) Set up direct debits and/or a direct deposit for your salary; and

d) Make one-off transfers or set up standing orders from the website and app, by calling customer service or directly at our branches.

Plus, with the Open Debit Card, you can make online or in-store payments.

No, the Account for Ukrainian Refugees is a non-interest-bearing basic payment account.

What costs does the Account for Ukrainian Refugees and the Open Debit Card have?

The Account for Ukrainian Refugees is a basic payment account that is free to open, maintain and close (0% NIR, 0% APR1).

Fees for ATM cash withdrawals with the Open Debit Card:

  • At ATMs of other financial institutions in Spain, other than Openbank and Banco Santander, the fee applied by the bank that owns the ATM will be charged to the customer, who will be informed before withdrawing the cash.
  • At ATMs belonging to other financial institutions in European Union countries, the fee applied by the bank that owns the ATM will be charged.
  • At ATMs of other non-EU banks: 4.50% of the amount withdrawn, with a minimum of €3.50.

All fees applied for using the main services associated with the basic payment account and the debit card are specified in the corresponding pre-contractual information documents.
