The team at Openbank, the 100% digital bank belonging to the Santander Group, has joined the fight against COVID-19, making a donation of €100,000 for the purchase of healthcare supplies.
The bank is collaborating with Spanish company Tendam (Cortefiel, Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’secret and Fifty), which will place an order through its global logistics channels. The supplies are expected to arrive in Spain next week, when they will be made available to health authorities.
Patricia Benito, CEO of Openbank, said: “We our proud to do our bit in the fight against coronavirus. We hope that the supplies purchased reach the healthcare teams as soon as possible and help facilitate the great work they are doing.”
At the same time, Openbank is running a donation campaign for vulnerable families during the coronavirus lockdown, led by Save the Children. The ‘By Your Side’ initiative aims to ensure food and educational support, psychological assistance, internet access and telephone support to more than 2,000 families. All customers of the bank can contribute by making a solidarity transfer from the openbank.es/en website.
This Openbank initiative is the latest in a series of measures commissioned by the Santander Group in the fight against coronavirus. The bank has announced the creation of a solidarity fund of €25 million for the most urgent medical needs in the fight against the virus. Initial resources will primarily be directed to the production of medical equipment, protective clothing and other supplies necessary to treat affected people.
