08/07/2018
Openbank, the Santander Group's 100% online bank, has added the Garmin Pay and Fitbit Pay technology to its existing mobile payment systems. Openbank is the first bank in Spain to offer its customers the main mobile payment platforms: Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Android Pay and Openbank Wallet. It has now added Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay to strengthen the bank's leadership in the mobile payment sector.
Fitbit Pay™ will be available to all Openbank customers on the Fitbit Ionic™ and Fitbit Versa™ devices, the company's two smartwatches designed to achieve health and fitness goals and to enjoy smart features for everyday life. Users can set up Fitbit Pay™ on their devices by following a few simple steps through the Fitbit application for Android and iOS. All they have to do is add their credit or debit card to their “Fitbit Wallet” and to carry out transactions in establishments that support totally secure contactless technology, without ever disclosing the card details.
With Garmin Pay®, users can also pay by bringing the watch near the POS terminal. This possibility is available for the vívoactive® 3/3 Music, Forerunner® 645/645 Music and the fēnix 5 Plus series devices, although it is expected to be on more of the brand's devices in the coming months. To use it, customers simply download their cards from the Garmin Connect application to their device and pay under the strictest security and privacy protocols, without storing their card number on the servers nor in the watch. Each time the customer makes a payment, he or she will also receive a warning message.
Openbank customers can now pay and operate ATMs with these devices through their Visa and Mastercard cards . These systems are another step towards the convergence of payments, allowing customers to have many different options available to make his day-to-day operations easier.
